Julian Green scores hat-trick against Inter Milan

Although many believed that Julian Green would never play a significant role for Bayern Munich, the young 21-year-old American silenced critics Saturday, scoring a hat-trick 35 minutes in Bayern’s 4-1 International Champions Cup win against Inter Milan.

Green began his scoring tally in the seventh minute. Franck Ribery passed a simple ball to an overlapping David Alaba who then placed a perfect cross towards the near post, finding a streaking Julian Green. The Tampa native calmly redirected the cross, giving Bayern an early 1-0 lead.

The 21-year-old’s second goal came in the 30′ minute off of a well-executed Bayern Munich fastbreak. Ribery used his explosive pace to dribble down the middle, laying it off to his left for a wide-open Green. Upon receiving the pass, the young US international placed a silky low shot towards the opposite post, giving Munich a huge 3-0 gap.

Green’s third and final goal took place in the 35′ minute, capping off a brilliant set of passes orchestrated by the Bundesliga champions. Chilean superstar Arturo Vidal located a sprinting Thiago flying wide down the right flank. Once gaining possession, the Spanish international crossed a well-placed ball into the middle of the box, finding Green for a simple tap-in.

The 21-year-old went on to finish out the game without being subbed off, putting on a dominant and respectable performance for new Bayern head coach Carlo Ancelotti. Green showed an impeccable willingness to run as well as precision crossing, something that USMNT manager Jurgen Klinnsman most likely kept his eye on.
