Karl Ouimette updates his health status; USL suspends Parkes

by DAVE MARTINEZ

Everyone, breathe. Karl Ouimette is OK.

Speaking for the first time since his tragic assault at the foot of now-former Pittsburgh Riverhounds forward Romeo Parkes, Ouimette took to Twitter to update his health status:

Ouimette’s incident made global headlines this past weekend for the sheer brutality of the attack. After both he and Parkes received red cards during the match, Parkes kicked the spine of Ouimette as the Canadian international began his walk off the field. The aggressive attack left Ouimette prone, needing a stretcher to take him to the sidelines.

Tweets began to stream out of Pennsylvania that night, updating Ouimette’s situation and revealing he was up and walking. But to this point, Ouimette himself hadn’t addressed the assault either via social media or through the press.

Parkes was terminated by Pittsburgh shortly after the match and USL suspended him for the entire year as well.
