Sam Kerr and the Perth Glory continue to roll as the 2016 season winds down.

Kerr scored the game-winner to lead her Australian Westfield W-League team to a 1-0 win over Sydney FC over the weekend. The victory was Perth’s second straight win and puts them just two points from the top spot with 3-1-1 record for 10 points.  Perth Glory is  fourth on the Westfield W-League table, equal on points with third-place Canberra United and just two behind leaders Melbourne City and Sydney.Bl

Kerr scored the game’s only  goal and her third of the season in the 18th minute when she gathered a ball in the midfield before sending it over to teammate Shawn Billam and making a run towards the Perth goal. Billam then carried the ball down the center of the Sydney FC defense and sent a hard roller to Rosie Sutton on top of the penalty area.

By that point, Kerr was finishing a run through the middle of the box, and Sutton fed her into space just outside the right post. Kerr then ran onto the pass and one-timed a beautiful strike that curled over the goalkeeper and hit the right-side netting.

Kerr came close to increasing Perth’s lead several times as she continued to wreak havoc on the Sydney FC defense.

Kerr almost doubled the home side’s lead seven minutes later when she wrong-footed Sydney goalkeeper Shamiran Khamis and played the ball towards the open goal, only to be denied on the line by defender Alanna Kennedy. Kerr and American import Vanessa DiBernardo combined for a number of chances during the match, but were unable to add a second goal for their team.

Glory’s next match is away to Adelaide United on Saturday, December 17, before returning to Dorrien Gardens to face the Newcastle Jets on January 2.
