Houston, TX - Saturday May 13, 2017: Sky Blue FC forward Samantha Kerr (20) celebrates after scoring a goal with Sky Blue FC midfielder Raquel Rodriguez (11) during a regular season National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) match between the Houston Dash and Sky Blue FC at BBVA Compass Stadium. Playing its fourth of five games on the road, Sky Blue (2-2-1, 7 points) got a balanced effort on offense and defense against Houston (2-3-0, 6) in a Week 5 game in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Kerr was the reason. Kerr, who was player of the year in the Australia’s W-League this past year, was active from the first kick to the final whistle and played a part in all three Sky Blue goals.

Kerr set up Sarah Killion’s league-leading fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick (what else?) in the first half and then assisted Leah Galton on her first of the season in the second half to lead Sky Blue to its second win of the season.

Kerr iced the match with a goal in the 87th minute.

Kerr started things in the 32nd minute when she was clipped by a high kick in the box, leading to Killion’s penalty kick. Kerr helped double the lead in the 53rd minute when she took a ball, accelerated into the Dash area and split two defenders. That allowed Galton to get free on the left for a shot and the goal.

The teams meet again on Saturday (4 p.m., Eastern) in the Lifetime network’s Game of the Week.
