Rumor Killer: Cosmos not in talks with Di Natale

Reports once again surfaced connecting the New York Cosmos with a move for Italian striker, Antonio Di Natale.

Sources tell EoS those claims are baseless.

While the Cosmos made a play for the Udinese forward this past winter, they have not had any further contact with the player or his agent since — this according to a source with knowledge of the Cosmos’ operations.

Di Natale and his representatives did speak to New York Cosmos coach/Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese this past February, negotiating for the better part of three weeks on a possible NASL move.

However, they were not able to reach an accord, and the Cosmos publicly admitted that talks collapsed. “There was definitely a contact, definitely a discussion with the possibility to explore a discussion that could involve bringing him to the Cosmos,” Savarese said back in February.  “Nothing ever formalized in the end.  There were some things we were thinking differently in some areas and at the end, it didn’t come to fruition.”

During that time, a source told EoS Savarese was “enamored” with the idea of bringing Di Natale to the Cosmos, citing the New York boss as a “big fan” of the longtime Udinese striker. That want for the striker can still serve as a boon to the Di Natale camp if they so desire to move stateside. After all, the Cosmos issued a denial linking them to Di Natale in early February before engaging in talks later in the month.
