Klinsmann takes to social media, kills Everton chatter

by DAVE MARTINEZ

This is why social media was invented.

Mere hours after ESPN commentator Ian Darke tweeted about “persistent” rumors linking U.S. Men’s National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann to an Everton move, the U.S. boss addressed reports directly via Twitter — linking to an MLSSoccer.com article regarding the report.

Prior to Klinsmann’s tweet, ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle tweeted comments from a U.S. spokesperson claiming “Everton has not contacted them about Jurgen Klinsmann.”

Ian Darke has since deleted the tweet.

Klinsmann, 51, is on the second year of a four year contract; a renewal package he earned shortly before the 2014 World Cup. While Klinsmann has enjoyed great success as the USMNT boss, including passage through the Group of Death in the last World Cup cycle, he has struggled mightily to commence the current cycle, highlighted by a recent loss against Guatemala in World Cup qualifying.

The USMNT’s next match is officially scheduled for May 25th when they take on Ecuador at Toyota Park in Frisco, Texas.
