NYCFC Loan Watch: Lampard returns, Saunders stuffs Cosmos, more

Frank Lampard Scores Manchester City

Quad injuries are a tricky ailment.  Some take weeks to recover.  Others, months.

In the case of New York City FC’s Frank Lampard, it was a re-aggravation of the quad muscle that put him on the sideline while at Manchester City.  It did not sideline him for long.  The 36-year-old former Chelsea man returned to action following a three week absence, playing 26 minutes in a rainy, dreary draw vs. Queens Park Rangers.

City found the late winner thanks to a red-hot Sergio Aguero.  For his part, Lampard looked settled in City’s midfield, and ready to contribute for the remainder of his loan.

NYCFC TAKE MORAL VICTORY OVER COSMOS

No, the New York Cosmos have not faced New York City FC just yet.

However, San Antonio loanee Josh Saunders gave them reason to want revenge next season.

The Scorpions net minder was lights-out against the Cosmos in their semi-final victory over the Cosmos.  While New York failed to produce on quality chances, Saunders was there to eliminate threats when they did appear.  His efforts now spearhead the Scorpions into the NASL Championship Final against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers where Saunders will once again be called upon to lead from the back.
