NYCFC Loan Watch: Lampard scores, Watson-Siriboe howler, more

Frank Lampard Scores Manchester City

It wasn’t just Manchester City that was celebrating their late-game equalizer against the red-hot Chelsea.

New York City FC joined in the cheering as their Designated Player Frank Lampard made his impact felt in a 1-1 draw over his former club, Chelsea.

Lampard came into the match in the 78th minute, replacing Aleksandar Kolarov. It would take him all of seven minutes to find the back of the net. James Milner picked out Lampard, firing a feed into the box and finding the former Chelsea legend in space. Lampard took an off balance shot, doing just enough to beat Courtois for the tying goal in the 85th minute.

Of course, he did not celebrate the accomplishment. Instead, he soaked in the cheers from both fans and continued his shift.

It was a productive and encouraging cameo by the future NYCFC star, especially after a weak debut with City.

Here is a clip of Lampard’s goal:

  • Kwame Watson-Siriboe has enjoyed a solid start to his career with the Carolina Railhawks, but that certainly took a downturn on Saturday night.  The future NYCFC defender let in an own goal, giving rival New York Cosmos life in a match that seemed destined to go in Carolina’s way.  Nine goals in the second half put the home Railhawks ahead in a thrilling 5-4 victory.
  • Josh Saunders faced seven shots on target in a 2-0 loss to Minnesota United.  It is his second loss in a row as the Scorpion’s once dynamic attack has taken a quiet turn over the past two weeks.
  • Andrew Jacobson played 90 minutes in a  3-0 Stabaek loss to Aalsund.
  • Jeb Brovsky remains out for Stromsgodset.
  • David Villa continues training in New York in anticipation of joining Melbourne City.

Yeah NYCFC fans where going wild !
