Cyle Larin, New York Soccer Slayer

Orlando City SC rookie Cyle Larin has taken the league by storm, setting the new single-season rookie record for goals with 17 this year.

Much of that production has come at the expense of New York teams.

Both New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls have been torched by the Canadian striker this season.

Larin’s brace this weekend added to impressive totals against NYCFC on the season. While most will remember their July 26th encounter at Yankee Stadium as the debut performance of Andrea Pirlo, Larin managed a hat trick in that dramatic 5-3 loss to New York City. In their only other encounter of the season — the respective season opener for both Orlando and City — Larin did not make the Lions 18-man roster.

The New York Red Bulls haven’t had much luck against the young striker, either. While Larin remained scoreless in just 32 minutes before a dubious red card took him out of their July 18th encounter in Florida, revenge was on Larin’s mind in the return leg at Red Bull Arena, netting a hat trick in a surprise 5-2 victory over New York on September 25th.

His ability to score on New York sides has contributed to a whopping eight of his 17 goals this season, making Larin one player both the Red Bulls and NYCFC will not forget next season.
