Raquel Rodriguez’s toe-poke in the final minutes gave the Sky Blue (3-2-1, 10 points) a 2-1 win over the visiting Houston Dash (2-4-0, 6) in a physical contest at Yurcak Field on Saturday.

The win gave Sky Blue a season sweep of Houston in back-to-back game,s and pushed their record to 6-0-3 against the Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Rodriguez came up with her second-goal and second-game winner of the year after Leah Galton was fouled about 30 yards out near the left touchline. Daphne Corboz took the free kick and lofted the ball into the middle of the box. Houston couldn’t clear and the ball fell to the feet of Rodriguez who put it past a diving Lynn Williams.

Houston replied after the goal. Kealia Ohai got loose down the right side and served a curling ball to the far post. Melissa Henderson was unmarked but could not convert.

Rodriguez is used an attacking role and was involved in the first Sky Blue goal, in the 20th minute. Sam Kerr won a ball from Dash defender Cami Previtt and served to the penalty spot. Rodriguez, last year’s rookie of the year, was taken down by Houston defender and New Jersey native Amber Brooks for a penalty kick. Sarah Killion stepped up and slotted the ball to the left post to score her league-leading fifth goal.

Sky Blue has a quick turnaround for its midweek match with the first-place North Carolina Courage on Wednesday in Cary, N.C., before returning home against Orlando on Saturday, its third game in eight days.
