Steven Gerrard is coming to America.

In a much anticipated announcement on the Liverpool website, the 34-year-old club legend revealed his departure this summer for an unnamed club in the United States.

“I can tell the supporters at the moment that it will be America,” said Gerrard. “I’ll be going to play in America. But I’m not over the line with any team just yet. I’m close and as soon as I know, I’ll make the announcement, I’ll do the bits and bobs that I need to do.

“Then we try to go and win a trophy and forget about Steven Gerrard for a bit.”

ESPN reports a deal is in place that would land Gerrard with the LA Galaxy. According to Jeff Carlisle, the veteran English midfielder will sign an 18-month on a pro-rated deal that would come to $6 million a year. MLS would pick up $750k of the contract, above the current DP standard of $387,500.

England’s Guardian puts the New York Red Bulls in the chase, while Ives Galarcep of Goal.com names Orlando City as a potential suitor. Meanwhile, Toronto FC continues to be in the conversation for Gerrard’s services as they have been since the end of 2014.

Gerrard, a consummate leader for the Reds for more than a decade, has scored 180 goals over 695 appearances across all competitions, leading Liverpool to a UEFA title, two FA Cup victories and three League Cup wins.

i would not be surprise if he joins the cosmos, or a team like toronto .why the cosmos, well… rick perry , the man behind the premier league and liverpool, who is probably still behind the scenes of the cosmos, might bring him in, and its very strange that the cosmos name was thrown in a couple of months ago when it was speculated that gerrard was leaving liverpool..this would be a big signing for any team in america….

Yes! We need more guys who feel as he does about MLS. Just look at his quote about one of the league’s top clubs in late 2013.

“[Lampard] is too good for LA Galaxy. You have seen his form for Chelsea at the back end of last season. It would have been sad if he had moved away, he’s a great player.”

    Yes! Bring. This. Guy. Here.

    *facepalm*
