For those expecting to see Chelsea legend Frank Lampard man the pitch in a Manchester City kit this weekend, you will have to wait a bit longer for the occasion.
New York City F.C.’s loanee did not make the traveling 18 for City in a 2-1 opening day victory over Newcastle United.
The news isn’t all that surprising. Lampard began training with City just a week ago, having spent most of his time away from practice after England’s World Cup ouster. Lampard signed with NYCFC on July 24th and has since been shopped for a loan, finding one with the reigning Premiership champions on August 6th. Like their other players, NYCFC hope the loan deal brings Lampard in top condition for the start of league play in March of 2015.
One date everyone will certainly have circled on their calendars is a September 21st fixture between City and Chelsea, where Lampard could have a realistic chance of manning the pitch.
While he leaves quite a legacy with Chelsea, the Blues have already begun moving forward, issuing his iconic number 8 to midfielder, Oscar.
