Manchester City add star power to B-team for Liverpool friendly at Yankees Stadium

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The cavalry is coming.

World Cup stars Yaya Toure, David Silva, Joe Hart and Eden Dzeko will join a B-level Manchester City side through their run in the Guinness International Champions Cup. That will include a July 30th showdown at Yankees Stadium against a stacked Liverpool side.

What do each of these players have in common? Their National Teams all faced elimination in the group stages of this year’s tournament. Toure’s Ivory Coast fell in a final-match heart-breaker against an advancing Greece. David Silva was part of a historic Spanish collapse. England’s Joe Hart finished last in their group, with Costa Rica and Uruguay advancing. And finally, Bosnia-Herzegovina were beaten out by a single point, watching Nigeria earn their place in the knockout rounds.

Players whose countries advanced, like Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, and Bacary Sagna, remain out of the American tour.

Here is the updated Manchester City roster:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (England), Willy Caballero, Richard Wright, Ian Lawlor

Defenders: Micah Richards, Matthias Bossaerts, Jason Denayer, Karim Rekik, Matija Nastasic, Dedryck Boyata, Gael Clichy, Aleksandar Kolarov

Midfielders: Fernando, Samir Nasri, Scott Sinclair, Javi Garcia, Emyr Huws, Jack Rodwell, Bruno Zuculini, James Milner (England), David Silva (Spain), Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast)

Forwards: Alvaro Negredo, John Guidetti, Kelechi Ihenacho, Stevan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
