Manchester United sign Red Bull Academy product Olosunde

Olosunde, RBNY

The New York Red Bulls signed seven Homegrown players this offseason — but their biggest fish didn’t take the bait.

After months of flirtation and conversation, Manchester United have completed a move for Red Bull Academy fullback, Matthew Olosunde. The defender signed with the Red Devils on January 29th but did not receive his international clearance until this past week. Olosunde’s signing was officially announced on Friday, and he debuted at centerback in Manchester United U-18’s 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion later that day.

Olosunde is the second Red Bull Academy product snatched up by an English soccer power this winter transfer window, following the move of fellow Academy product Matt Miazga to Chelsea. Olosunde left Red Bull Academy for a move to Duke University before making his final destination at United.

Details of the deal were not disclosed by Manchester United.

Impressive – RBNY’s academy has produced two players who’ve signed for Chelsea and Man United this season.
