U.S. Men’s National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann has had a change of heart.

After initially stating he would cut the team’s roster to 23 players prior to a “dry-run” of Brazil, the USMNT boss has awarded his players for an excellent training camp, bringing all 26 participants with him to Sao Paolo. That means New York Red Bull stars Dax McCarty and Eric Alexander will be along for the ride.

“We have been extremely pleased with the performance of the group in the first week,” said Klinsmann. “The players came in very fit and have done really well in training. Therefore, we believe they have all earned a chance to go to Brazil for these next 12 days.

“We are excited about getting down to Sao Paulo and continuing the work. This is a huge opportunity to get to know our environment for the World Cup.”

The camp will include a pair of closed-door scrimmages to give U.S. players a taste of soccer in Brazil. Barring an excused absence, McCarty and Alexander will miss the first few days of Red Bull training camp with the team set to meet up on January 24th in New Jersey before heading out to Orlando on the 27th. That wait may be extended if either player is selected for the U.S. National Team friendly against the Korean Republic on February 1st in Carson, California.
