It took New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty a lot of time to find his way back into the U.S. National Team picture.

Now, both he and teammate Eric Alexander are making the right impression, earning inclusion in Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster heading into the club’s Carson, California camp. The Red Bulls’ duo survived the initial cut and are now one step closer to representing their country when the National team takes on Korea Republic on February 1st.

“All of the players have put in a tremendous amount of work and effort these past two weeks,” said Klinsmann. “We had a great opportunity to introduce some new players into the Senior National Team Program and they have done extremely well. I think they have a bright future, and now they go back to their clubs with a better understanding of what it takes at the international level.”

For McCarty, a call-up would mean the end to a near three-year absence with the National team. He last featured for his country in 2011. Meanwhile, Alexander continues to impress as the definitive dark horse of the U.S. player pool.

“We’ve got a great report back from Klinsmann on both of those guys,” New York Red Bull head coach Mike Petke said. “While I don’t know Jurgen very well, off of people I know that know him well, he is not a BS-er. He would be very honest. I am taking what he said to be true; that they have had a very solid training camp so far and looked the part, so I am very happy for them.”

While McCarty and Alexander continue their National team adventure, the Red Bulls are preparing for their preseason, set to take flight towards Orlando, Florida Monday of this week.
