Dax McCarty is known to give advice to young New York Red Bulls players in need of guidance.

Apparently, that skill applies to other team’s players as well.

Last night, McCarty took to Twitter to help straighten out Chicago Fire rookie, Harrison Shipp; the hat-trick hero who helped sink New York 5-4 at Red Bull Arena Saturday night. The 22-year-old rookie was riding a high after his standout performance, and took to Twitter to gloat about his play.

He has since deleted the tweet.

Regardless of that, McCarty did not take too kindly to his actions:

Would McCarty’s words fall on deaf ears? Apparently not.

Shipp responded to the avalanche of critique on his Twitter Sunday morning:

Maybe McCarty made a difference after all.
