The speculation is over.

Chelsea FC has officially announced that United States International Matt Miazga will join Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old New York Red Bulls product has only made two appearances for Chelsea FC since joining the London club last winter, appearing in Premier League matches against Aston Villa and Swansea. Miazga was a part of the team that traveled to Austria and the United States for preseason and will now hope to continue his development in the Dutch Eredivisie with Vitesse.

For those familiar with Chelsea FC’s youth system, it is tradition to see their younger products move out on loan to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem. Recent Chelsea products to spend time in the Netherlands include midfielders Nathan and Lewis Baker as well as striker Izzy Brown.

While some may view this as a demotion, Miazga’s stint in the Netherlands will give the 21-year-old Red Bulls product some much needed playing time. If he manages to impress, his rights will still be owned by Chelsea, leaving a potential pathway to the Premiership.
