Following reports from SBI earlier in the week, Miami FC has formally announced the signing of Gabriel Farfan from Liga MX’s Chiapas.

Farfan, 28, started the year on loan to the New York Cosmos and picked up four solid appearances before being sidelined with an injury in the spring. His loan expired at the conclusion of the Spring Season and the Cosmos had discussions with Chiapas about extending the deal through the Fall Season, but Miami’s deal was too good to pass up. The South Florida side signed Farfan outright after settling on a fee with Chiapas.

The California native is a versatile player, capable of playing on either side of the back line and moving up into the midfield to provide pace. He mostly featured at right back while with New York before suffering his injury.

The deal is the fourth notable transfer Miami has secured in recent months. The expansions club acquired midfielders Richie Ryan and Michael Lahoud — another former Cosmos player — through transfer before the spring was done, and then this week added attacker Kwadwo Poku from New York City FC.

The new-look Miami FC kicks off its fall campaign on the road against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers this Saturday.
