Surprise!

Mikey Lopez had surgery to remove loose fragments in his ankle last week and will be sidelined for up to the next four months, New York City FC announced Friday.

Lopez had successful arthroscopic surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and posted a picture of himself after the operation on his Twitter account six days ago. In a release, NYCFC said Lopez will miss between 12-16 weeks making it unlikely that he would be able to return to training until late April at the earliest.

Lopez made 15 appearances for City last season logging a career-high 672 minutes.
