Red Bulls Cahill, Miller named to preliminary World Cup rosters

Both Tim Cahill and Roy Miller have enjoyed stellar performances with the New York Red Bulls over the past 18 months.

Now, their hard work is being rewarded.

Both Australia and Costa Rica have named their preliminary 30-man rosters for this year’s World Cup in Brazil, and both Red Bull standouts are on the list.

“One of the biggest decisions of my career was to move to the Red Bulls and MLS to prolong my career as an international playing for the Socceroos and we qualified for a World Cup and now I’m potentially in the selection to go to my third World Cup of my generation,” Cahill said after Red Bulls’ practice Friday afternoon. “I’m very proud, but I’m very proud also to be a New York Red Bulls player.”

Cahill, 34, has become the face of Australian football, featuring on the international stage 67 times and scoring a Socceroos record breaking 31-goals in the process.

Miller, 29, has become a regular face over the past several years with the Tico, earning 47 caps in his lifetime, and registering a goal as a left fullback. Despite a few hiccups with New York, Miller remains the longest tenured player on the club, registering 106 appearances, 96 starts, and 14 assists since 2010.

Both Miller and Cahill have been requested by their FA’s to join their national teams immediately. Whether the Red Bulls allow a move prior to the FIFA mandate May 18th release date is yet to be determined.
