MLS Offseason Notebook: Galaxy sign De Jong, more

by Ryan Brister

LA Galaxy sign Nigel De Jong: A report by the LA Times says the Galaxy have signed Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong from AC Milan. The 31-year-old has 80 caps for the Netherlands, including appearances at each of the last two World Cups. His club career includes stops in the Bundesliga (with Hamburg) and Premier League (with Manchester City), and he has been with Milan since 2012.

Rumors link Nocerino to Orlando: De Jong’s former Milan teammate Antonio Nocerino may also be on his way to MLS. Reports out of Italy suggest that the 30-year-old Italian midfielder is set to sign with Orlando City, rejoining Kaka. Nocerino, who has 15 caps for Italy, has also been linked to DC United this offseason.

Krisztian Nemeth sold to Qatari club: After one successful season in MLS, Krisztian Nemeth is heading back across the Atlantic. Sporting Kansas City has sold the Hungarian winger to Al-Gharafa in Qatar. Nemeth had 10 goals in 28 games for SKC last season, including what was voted as the Goal of the Year. His performance earned him renewed interest from the Hungarian national team last summer.

Sounders close to signing Roberto Chen: Panamanian center back Roberto Chen was reportedly in Seattle over the weekend for a physical prior to signing with the Sounders. Chen, 21, has made appearances for Malaga in La Liga, but a series of loans have derailed the trajectory of his club career.
