Alex Morgan, star striker for the USWNT and the Portland Thorns FC, will join Argentinian Leo Messi of FC Barcelona on the cover of the US version of ‘FIFA 16,’ making her the first woman to appear on the cover in the video game’s history.

The Canadian version of the game will feature Christine Sinclair of the Canadian WNT and the Portland Thorns FC, while the Australian version will feature Steph Catley, of the Australian WNT and-you guessed it-the Portland Thorns FC.

“As soon as we knew women’s national teams were joining ‘FIFA 16,’ we immediately recognized that Christine and Alex would be the perfect cover athletes based on their accomplishments and what they represent for their respective countries and the sport of women’s soccer,” said David Pekush, senior manager of North America marketing for EA SPORTS. “They are exhilarating players and exude heart and courage on the pitch, and we are extremely proud to be working with them this year.”

Morgan shared her excitement today on Twitter — where she has approximately two million followers:

The game will feature twelve women’s national teams: the United States, Germany, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, China, Italy, and Mexico. All but Italy appeared in the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Of note: gamers will not be able to play the women against the men’s national or club teams.

Nevertheless, the addition of these national teams comes on the heels of the Women’s World Cup Final, which became the most watched soccer match in United States history with an average of 25.4 million viewers as the US defeated Japan 5-2.

EA SPORTS’ ‘FIFA 16’ will be in stores September 22nd in North America on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4 and Playstation 3.
