Youth Movement: Klinsmann unveils 22-man roster for Czech friendly

All of 10 World Cup players will be donning the U.S. Men’s National Team kit in the team’s first international friendly since the tournament.

Stalwarts Fabian Johnson, Jozy Altidore and Brad Guzan join little-known commodities Jordan Morris, Rubio Rubin, Emerson Hyndman, Jordan Morris and Bobby Wood in the USMNT’s 22-man roster for a September 3rd showdown against Czech Republic in Prague.

“We look at this as the start of our project towards Russia in 2018, and in this first step we get to look at many of our talented young players based in Europe,” head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a statement. “We have some great youngsters coming through the ranks that are starting to break through with their clubs teams and are ready to challenge for spots on the Senior Team, and even most of our World Cup veterans from Brazil on this roster will be coming into the prime of their careers in the next four years, so this is an exciting opportunity.”

Corona, Gyau, Hyndman and Morris are all alumni of the U.S. Development Academy program.  Cody Cropper has been a steady presence between the sticks for U.S. Soccer’s youth teams.  Hyndman earns the distinction as the youngest player in the roster (18) while Morris becomes the first active college player to ever be called under Klinsmann.Meanwhile, Bolton standout and former New York Red Bull Tim Ream returns to the National stage, alongside Michael Orozco, Joe Corona, Brek Shea and Alfredo Morales.
