Moving On: Long leads NYRBII in dominating win over Orlando

Harrison, N.J. – Aaron Long’s two-goal performance was the exclamation point on a dominating performance by New York Red Bull II as they eliminated Orlando City B by a score of 4-0.

Long, who recently made the move from NYRB II to the senior team, returned to the line-up in one of his best performances to date. His goals in both halves showed the team’s exceptional positioning and killer instinct to put the game away early.

From the get go New York dominated possession. At first they appeared to have difficulty breaking Orlando down in the final third but quickly began peppering  OCB goalkeeper Mark Ridgers. A corner kick in the 32nd minute changed everything as Aaron Long, positioned at the far post, found the ball and slotted it away for the game’s opening goal.

The second half is where the wheels would fall off the cart for Orlando as NYRB II punished them with three unanswered goals. The first came from Vincent Bezecourt who unleashed a tremendous volley following a Florian Valot pass in the box. Less than 10 minutes later Brandon Allen added his first of the playoffs by out hustling Ridgers to the ball and buring the opportunity. Lastly, Aaron Long punctuated the team’s performance with a headed effort off a set piece from just outside the box.

New York’s victory advances them to the Eastern Conference semi-final where they’ll meet the very tough Rochester Rhinos. New York has yet to beat the Rhinos but will need to find an answer to continue on in the hunt for a USL Championship.
