The Cosmos continue to expand.

Dipping into both the MLS and NASL player pool, the New York Cosmos have added former Colorado Rapids midfielder Joseph Nane and NASL combine standout Juan Gonzalez.

Nane, 25, made 19 appearances over two seasons with the Rapids, scoring a single goal in the process. The 6’2″ defensive midfielder was drafted 53rd overall (4th round) in the 2010 MLS Superdraft.

“When you watch Joseph play, you can quickly see the commanding physical presence he has on the field,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “The combination of his defensive skill and stature should help us a lot in the middle of the pitch.”

Gonzalez, 25, is a native of Cali, Colombia who attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Savarese and his staff spotted the left fullback in this year’s NASL Combine and invited him to the Cosmos Combine earlier last month.

“Juan is a versatile defender who can help solidify the depth we plan to have on our team,” Savarese said. “He’s a hard-worker that I expect will grow well with the Cosmos.”

The Cosmos now boast 11 players to their roster which include former MLS players (Reynish, Mendes, Freeman, Nane, Veeder, Marosevic), Cosmos mainstays (Murphy, Dimitrov) and international talents (Ayoze, Lopez, Gonzalez). They begin their NASL Fall campaign on August 3rd at Hofstra University against the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.
