New York Cosmos Appoint Assistant Youth Director

The New York Cosmos revealed this morning that the club has hired Ronan Wiseman as its Assistant Youth Director. The move is an early step in the club’s process of piecing together the staff that will form the foundation of the Cosmos youth academy. The Cosmos recently received sanctioning from U.S. Soccer for its U-12 program and have pending applications for U-13 and U-14 squads.

Part of Wiseman’s duties will include working closely with the club’s 19 Academy Affiliate Programs and also picking the first crop of youth players brought into the newly established academy.

“I’m pleased that we have Ronan in place to help build our academy,” said New York Cosmos Head Coach, Giovanni Savarese. “For the past three years we have been planning the launch of our Academy. We are committed to the development of young talent in our area and with Ronan’s experience in youth coaching we believe we are building a good foundation for young players.”

Wiseman has strong ties to the youth game in Long Island. He currently serves as the Player Development Program Director of Coaching for the Long Island Junior Soccer League — a youth league that boasts over 75,000 members in the area. Wiseman has also held coaching positions at Long Island University CW Post, the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Adelphi University and Hofstra University.

“This is a great opportunity, not only for myself but also for hundreds of young players in the New York area,” said Wiseman. “The Cosmos have a great history of talent but my role will be to ensure the club has a great future, giving homegrown talent the chance, experience and a pathway to professional soccer.”

    Any news on their stadium.
The funniest part from all these new stadiums in the US,is that Minnesota is going to get theirs faster and better designed.
Look at Vancouver whitecaps, Revolution, DC, I’m impressed how fast Minnesota got their stadium paperwork done.

I doubt anything is going to happen with the stadium until the State and Nassau County get the casino squared away. Mangano wants the casino at Belmont (is already counting on revenue from the casino this year), but surprisingly, there’s a lot of opposition from the locals.
