While the Red Bulls continue to struggle to fill out positions in their coaching staff for the coming season, the New York Cosmos keep adding to theirs.
Guillermo “Memo” Valencia has officially joined Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese’s staff. Valencia worked with the USSF as an U-17 and U-18 keeper coach. He has also taken on managerial roles with Seton Hall (’12), New York University (’07-’10) and Columbia University (’02-’05) over the course of many years primarily working with goalkeepers.
Valencia had a respectable 11 year career in the Colombian Primera playing for, amongst other teams, America de Cali. He also played professional and semi-pro ball in Mexico and the United States.
“Memo is a goalkeeper coach with an outstanding work ethic and his professional experience will help him to provide the best training, not only for the New York Cosmos’ goalkeepers but also the U.S. U-18 youth national team,” said Savarese. “Memo was part of our staff for the New York Cosmos U-23 team and I’m excited to have him back working with us.”
The Cosmos are set to debut for the Fall NASL Championship season.
