New York Red Bulls Acquire Stephane Auvray From Sporting KC

In an attempt to secure some much needed depth for their final ten game push to the playoffs, the New York Red Bulls have acquired Guadeloupe Captain Stephane Auvray from Sporting KC. According to SBI, the Red Bulls agreed to send their 2013 second round pick in exchange for the defensive midfielder.

Auvray, the captain of the Guadeloupe National team, has spent much of this season riding the bench for Kansas City after being a regular starter just last year. He is strictly considered a defensive player who will surely provide some depth for the oft-injured Teemu Tainio.

And don’t let his 5’8″ 150lb. frame fool you; he will be a physical bench option that would be able to bring the kind of fiesty attitude to the midfield that Mehdi Ballouchy and Dax McCarty simply lack.

If you are wondering why Auvray, here may be one reason; he’s friends with Thierry Henry. The Guadeloupe captain visited Henry after SKC’s defeat at Red Bull Arena earlier this season, and Henry spoke glowingly of the National captain just ahead of the island nations clash against the United States.

UPDATE: Stephane Auvray will not count as an international slot for the Red Bulls.

  • If we just gave up a second round pick for him, as reported, I’m not against the deal.

  • Allocation would make no sense and its clear Backe doesnt like going the way of the draft. Tim Ream has been the only one to flourish as a draftee under Backe.

  • David Johnson

Finally, the New York Red Bulls have the Rasta they have been looking for! Heard he packs a mighty shin kick … watch out Chicago!

  • Brian

Really good trade. Without Tainio there was no balance or depth in midfield and Dax just can’t do it alone (because playing with Ballouchy might as well count as -1 player). If nothing else, he’ll break up play.

  • I made a comment a few weeks ago about Henry becoming the player coach but maybe its better if he becomes the General Manager?!?! What do you think Dave?

    • Let’s see how Auvray works out first before we crown Henry L’GM. lol

  • whats with the welchman bro is he getting paid for being hurt? it just does make any sense two straight season same injury …and what’s with Mr. Nielsen getting paid for bad attitude and being hurt…what a gm

    • Robinson is like another coach. Why he doesnt retire and do it full time is beyond me.
