The New York Red Bulls have cut 23 year old Costa Rican forward Josue Martinez.
“We spoke with Josue and think that this is a mutually beneficial decision,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. “We want to wish Josue the best of luck in the next stage of his career.”
Martinez was acquired from the Philadelphia Union for Sebastian Le Toux at the end of 2012. He made a single appearance for the club as a late game substitute against Montreal last week.
The signing comes on the heels of the Red Bulls acquisition of burly forward Andre Akpan from the Colorado Rapids. The move opens up an international roster slot for the team and brings their total number of players to 28.
