Notts Happening? Yankees deny reported interest in buying Notts County

Notts County

Who is telling the truth? That remains to be seen.

For now, the New York Yankees have refuted a Sky Sports report stating their interest in purchasing English League Two club Notts County — this according to ESPN FC.

The Yankees hold a 20 percent stake in New York City FC through their parent company, Yankee Global Enterprises. Sky reported that the two sides have been discussing a takeover for ‘several weeks’ after Notts County chairman Ray Trew put the club up for sale.

The Yankees denied the report citing their relationship with Manchester City and part-ownership of NYCFC.

Sky also reported that Notts County’s stake as being the world’s oldest club is attracting the Yankees’ interest. The club was founded 154 years ago and currently sits eighth in League Two this season. According to ESPN FC’s source, although Yankee Global Enterprises may not be interested in taking over Notts County, one of its stakeholders could be involved in the deal.
