One man; Ryan Meara.
The second round MLS Superdraft selection did what nearly the entire gambling industry could only dream of; he called the big game – down to the score. As quoted by NewYorkRedBulls.com just prior to kickoff, the 21 year old goalkeeper’s bold prediction was made for all to see:
The team has the remainder of the day off and will rejoin later this evening to take in a private group showing of the Super Bowl. Defender Jan Gunnar Solli and goalkeeper Ryan Meara are among those rooting for the Giants, with Meara going so far as to boldly predict a 21-17 final score. We’ll see where he stands by the end of the night.
I guess he stood pretty darned well if you ask me.
While many are recovering from a beer and buffalo wing induced hangover, EoS is here to catch you up on the World of soccer, in a New York Minute:
20 year old Icelandic midfielder Victor Palsson posted the following on his twitter account this weekend:
Signed a contract for two years this morning, very pleased with it. Now I am waiting for permits.
Though there is no confirmation from the team yet, it is pretty safe to assume, considering the source, that this is a done deal.
HENRY’S LOAN AT ARSENAL TO BE EXTENDED?
February 18th; that was the date set for the New York Red Bulls captain to come back to the States after a fairytale run with the Gunners. February 27th, however, has been the long speculated extension date, allowing Henry to get a proper sending off in front of the Emirates faithful during the Arsenal/Tottenham ‘London Derby.’
It is looking more and more like the latter may win out. With matches against Sunderland and AC Milan on the horizon, Gunner boss Arsene Wenger has spoken openly about extending the loan following Henry’s game capping goal against Blackburn this weekend.
“Maybe the maximum possibility we have is two more weeks,” Wenger told the Associated Press.
TIM REAM WATCH:
The former Red Bull defender has left his New Jersey abode for the frigid world of the Prem. Bolton’s next game is at home against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, Feb. 11; his possible first starting date.
RUUD VAN NISTELROOY TO THE RED BULLS?
EoS continues to spotlight the bevy of rumors that continue to link veterans and youngsters alike to the New York Red Bulls. The latest hearsay falls into the former category.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy, 35, currently playing for Malaga in Spain, has been linked by Spanish site Fichajes as a possible transfer option for New York come this summer.
The rather hollow report doesn’t indicate when the supposed transfer would occur.
Tobias Grahn, linked strongly to the Red Bulls a short time ago, has signed on with Orebro of the Swedish league.
BECKHAM SENT OFF; WAS “THAT” PARENT AT KIDS SOCCER GAME
This report is a howler; the Daily Mail caught up with David Beckham, who revealed an interesting story about how he was sent off at his kids pee wee league soccer match. I won’t steal the Mail’s thunder – click the link to read on.
