NYCFC Jeb Brovsky set for Strømsgodset loan

New York City F.C. is certainly dedicated to finding loans for their players leading up to the 2015 season — even if it means finding homes outside of the Manchester City network.

Sources tell EOS Jeb Brovsky is set for a loan move with Strømsgodset of the Norwegian Tippeligaen. The former Montreal Impact defender would begin his tenure in Norway starting July 15th through the end of the Tippeligaen campaign (November 9th).

The deal is not officially completed, however, as Brovsky and NYCFC await MLS approval.

Reporter Magna Jordan Nilsen of Drammens Tidende first reported a possible move via Twitter Sunday afternoon.

Brovsky is only the second player to join NYCFC’s roster following the big splash signing of Spanish international David Villa. The 25-year-old Colorado native sought the opportunity to join Major League Soccer’s 20th franchise after head coach Jason Kreis showed interest in him. Conceding to his wishes, Impact Sporting Director Nick De Santis traded the young fullback to NYCFC, earning a 2016 second round draft pick in return.

“I feel very fortunate that we are in a position to add a player of Jeb’s quality this early in our process,” Kreis said at the time of the trade. “He is a player my staff and I have been very fond of going back several years ago when he entered the League and we have been watching and appreciating him ever since. His athleticism, versatility, and passion for the game are evident and I am certain we have added another terrific character to our growing family.”

Strømsgodset presents Brovsky with a unique opportunity. Not only would he be eligible to feature in 15 league matches, but he will also be up for selection in a pair of UEFA Champions League Qualifiers as well.

Once approved, Brovsky will join Manchester City loanee Bismark Adjei-Boateng as the second player from the City network to join the club.

New York City F.C. begin their preseason training in the third week of January. Star player David Villa is currently in New York City prior to a loan move to City sister club, Melbourne.

I wouldn’t say Stromsgodset are “outside the network” exactly its not like they just randomly threw darts at a map of Europe. There’s clearly a working relationship as Bismark Boateng wasn’t the first MCFC player to have been sent there. Wonder if any future NYCFC signings will join Brovsky there.

  • Not meant that way. Clearly there is a history — I followed up my story with a tweet about just that and mention the MCFC loanee in story.
