New York City FC announced today that it will be extending its partnership with the Wilmington Hammerheads as part of the ongoing affiliation agreement between MLS and the USL.

In a release, NYCFC described its partnership with the Hammerheads as a success and cited the loans of defender Connor Brandt and forward Kwadwo Poku last April as examples. The two clubs maintain an ‘open-door’ agreement in which coaches of each club to observe the other’s training sessions and matches and also discuss tactical and financial ideas.

“We’re excited to extend our relationship with Wilmington Hammerheads for 2016,” NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna said. “Our coaching departments will work together on team development and we’re looking forward to the collaboration and sharing ideas”

The Hammerheads have also had players spend time with NYCFC. Goalkeeper Andre Rawls spent 2015 with the club recording a 1.45 goals against average in 22 appearances. Rawls is now with NYCFC for the preseason.

“We are extremely excited about entering our second year of the affiliation with NYCFC,” Hammerheads general manager Jason Arnold said. “Both clubs have been very busy in the off-season and have a lot to look forward to in 2016. To be affiliated with NYCFC and their entire structure gives us great pride and we are pleased to continue our affiliation.”
