NYCFC logoNew York City FC defender Shannon Gomez has joined the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on loan for the remainder of the 2017 season.

Gomez’s deal is classified as a 2017 Standard USL Loan Agreement, which stipulates that players are able to play for both a USL club and an MLS club during the loan.

Gomez will benefit from playing time and give the Riverhounds depth on the back line.

“This was an opportunity for us to acquire a really sharp, quick, experienced young player from a top organization like New York City FC,” Coach Dave Brandt said. “We’ve obviously dealt with some injuries in the back and having a young, talented player like Shannon, who can play right back, will help us moving forward this season.”

Gomez joined NYCFC in 2016 on loan from W Connection of Trinidad and Tobago. NYCFC signed Gomez at the end of the loan, but injuries have kept him from first-team action.

Gomez is expected to make his debut on Tuesday 4 against the Charlotte Independence.
