New York City FC acquired the international slot it needed to add Maxime Chanot to its roster today.

NYCFC traded forward Patrick Mullins to DC United for the international spot and a variety of allocation funds, the Washington Post reports. The club announcement said it received General Allocation Money and Targeted Allocation Money from DC.

Mullins made seven appearances for City this season playing 230 minutes without scoring. He came off the bench in each of City’s last two matches but last started in their Open Cup loss to the New York Cosmos.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to sincerely thank Patrick Mullins for his contribution to the building of New York City FC,” sporting director Claudio Reyna said. “Patrick gave his all on the field and in the community, and scored a goal in our historic first ever match at Yankee Stadium that will always be remembered. We wish him the best of luck in the next step of his career.”

NYCFC needed an international slot to add Luxembourg center back Maxime Chanot to its roster after signing him July 16. Chanot has yet to join the team as he is waiting for his visa paperwork to be finalized, Vieira said after training today. Vieira did not offer a timetable on when Chanot can be expected in training.

“Patrick is a young, dynamic number nine who knows how to create and finish chances,”” Dave Kasper, general manager and VP of soccer operations for D.C. United said. “ “We have had him on our radar since his time at Maryland and look forward to his continued development here. We are delighted he i’s joining us and believe in the value he can add to this club.””

Mullins scored six goals in 2015 for NYCFC and joins DC United on the same day it traded designated player Fabian Espindola to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Mullins is expected to inject life into a DC attack that has only scored 18 times in 20 matches this season. Mullins will join DC for training tomorrow and is expected to be available for their match against Toronto FC Saturday.
