New York Red Bull II central midfielder Devon “Speedy” Williams is expected to join Louisville City FC — a fact he shared with Once a Metro.

“I will be heading to Louisville,” said Williams.

The Jamaican-born midfielder played in 25 regular season games for New York Red Bull II, scoring one goal and tallying one assist over that time. Injuries and roster competition forced Williams to the bench near the end of the season, leaving him with only 20 minutes of playing time in the USL Playoffs.

Previous to his time in the USL, Williams played in Jamaica for sides St. George’s SC and Roal Mona in the Jamaican National Premier League. He’s also made appearances for the Jamaican U20 Men’s National Team. His move to Louisville City should have him playing more minutes as a starter. In two seasons Louisville has made the playoffs with their most recent run being their most successful. New York defeated Louisville City in the 2016 USL Eastern Conference Final via penalty-kicks.

New York Red Bull II still has an abundance of midfielders with Tyler Adams, Vincent Bezecourt and David Najem at the top of the list in 2017. Other midfield talent that has left the team in the 2016 off-season includes Dan Metzger and Konrad Plewa.
