Derrick Etienne Jr. and Junior Flemmings have been selected for the opportunity to represent their countries in this year’s Copa America Centenario tournament, taking place between June 3rd and June 26th.

Etienne has made the 40-man cut for Haiti’s preliminary Copa list. Haiti are in an extremely difficult group that includes Brazil, Peru and Ecuador. The dynamic 19-year-old midfielder has been capped previously for the Haitian U17, U20 and U23 and took part in last year’s U20 CONCACAF Championships.

The call-up is just the latest example of just how high Etienne’s stock has risen with less than two years of professional experience. This year alone, Etienne has scored a goal and added two assists through six matches for New York Red Bulls II. Whether or not he sees significant minutes remains to be seen but the promotion is yet another bullet point on this young players impressive resume.

Jamaica will also call up their own young Red Bull prospect with Junior Flemmings joining the senior squad. The 20-year-old forward has made appearances with the U17 and U20 Jamaican national team. Over that time, he scored six goals and hopes to add more should the opportunity present itself during the tournament.

Jamaica’s group stage opposition is also quite imposing with Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Copa America Centenario is one of the biggest tournaments to take place in the United States in quite some time and will feature the major national teams in North and South America. Games will begin on June 3rd.
