New York Red Bull II has re-signed forward Stefano Bonomo for the 2017 USL season. Bonomo was out of contract after the 2016 season.

“It’s great to have Stefano back with the team,” Coach John Wolyniec said. “He’s been with us for the past year and a half. Now, it’ll be interesting to see where he can get with another year under his belt. He worked really hard and we hope to keep moving him along and take that next step in his career.”

Bonomo, 24, has been a member of New York Red Bull II since midway through 2015. He has made 31 appearances, scoring 8 goals. Bonomo’s career started with the Red Bulls in 2015 when he was selected 39th over all in the MLS draft. But the New York Red Bulls couldn’t come to terms with the California-native and he tried to kickstart his career in Europe.

Midway through the 2015 season, Bonomo returned to New York Red Bull II and has become an important part of the team. Last season he came off the bench as a striking option later in the game for Brandon Allen. With the duties of backup now falling to Allen, Bonomo may have a more prominent role in 2017.
