New York Red Bull II has announced the signing of 23-year-old midfeilder David Najem to the USL squad.

Najem, a native of Clifton, New Jersey, made 37 appearances between 2014 and 2015 with FC Eintracht Bamberg in Germany’s fourth division and scored two goals. Before this, his collegiate career consisted of playing for Columbia University where he made 64 appearances and scored 10 goals.

“I’ve had a long relationship with David and he’s been with the club in the past,” said head coach John Wolyniec. “He came through our academy and he’s someone we’ve had our eye on for a long time. David was over in Germany for a bit, came back and it made sense to have him back. We’re looking forward to having him and he’s a kid that’s going to add a lot to this squad.”

This adds even more to the NYRB II midfield which currently has Daniel Metzger, Devon Williams, Konrad Plewa, Junior Flemmings and Aaron Long signed to USL contracts. That isn’t counting¬†the injured Vincent Bezecourt, a standout contributor.

In addition, players loaned down from the MLS side include Tyler Adams, Derrick Etienne and Alex Muyl who have made appearances for the club this season. Whether or not Najem will make the transition to another position remains to be seen as the USL side has experimented quite frequently in 2016.

Najem is the seventh signing of 2016 for New York Red Bull II and the 12th player on contract to the team.
