After days of reports out of London and Glasgow, Gideon Zelalem’s loan to Glasgow Rangers is now official according to Arsenal’s website.

The loan is only until January, which will give the 18-year-old American international a chance to get regular first team minutes.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton told the Daily Mail yesterday that the midfielder was on hand for the club’s 1-0 victory over Hibernian on Sunday and will begin training as early as Monday.

“I am delighted to get hold of him,” said Warburton. “I would like to welcome him on board. He is another young, very talented player.”

The Maryland native was a key member of the United States run at the U-20 World Cup this summer.

At the club level, Zelalem has become one of Arsenal’s most prized young talents. Prior to his move Scotland, Zelalem scored the lone goal for the U-21 Gunners against Fulham in the first week of the 2015 season. Last year the midfielder helped lead Arsenal’s U-19s to victory at the Durban International Tournament in South Africa.

Warburton did not indicate when the player would be available for selection. Zelalem could make his debut as early as Wednesday, when Rangers travel to Airdrieonians for a League Cup contest.
