Icelandic international Victor Palsson has made it official, announcing via Twitter that he has signed on with NEC Nijmegen of the Eredivisie.
Palsson, 21, made 12 appearances with the Red Bulls including four starts for the club. Though he was a standout in preseason play, he quickly lost that status with play that was marred by bad decision making and ill advised challenges resulting in a pair of yellow card infractions and a red card to boot.
With a largely listless resume in New York, former General Manager Erik Soler loaned the midfielder to NEC this past August with an option to buy at season’s end. Nijmegen indeed exercised the option and Palsson now leaves New York on a free transfer.
