BRONX, N.Y. – With both New York City FC stars David Villa and Frank Lampard quelling talks over a potential offseason move, Andrea Pirlo offered his position on the matter.

Meeting with members of the press at an open practice in Yankee Stadium, the 36-year-old Italian national team star said he will go on vacation and train this offseason in preparation for the 2016 campaign with New York City FC — that is all.

“I haven’t given it any thought,” Pirlo said through a translator. “We’ll still be training until December and then after that, after the vacation, we’ll see.”

NYCFC are scheduled to regroup by the third week of January for the start of the 2016 preseason program. Pirlo said he was still happy to be at NYCFC even though the team failed to make the playoffs. In his short time with the club, the Italian legend has found his stride, playing 12 matches for the club, including 11 starts and five assists to his ledger.

His 18-month contract with NYCFC will expire at the end of next season. With Euro 2016 set to be Pirlo’s last international tournament, he will have to make a decision on his career sometime in the next 12 months.

Pirlo was asked if the 2016 season will be his last:

“No, I don’t think so,” he said.

This is what he actually told his friends in Italy before he joined NYCFC.

….Just leave me alone, ok. Now where’s my smokes and sambuca?

The way he played this season you’d think he’d retired in June…

How about he “gives some thought” to conditioning?

  • paulmac

He might want to give some thought to learning to play any sort of defense

He HAS thought about drinking espresso, having some vino, smoking some cigarettes and chasing women.

All your comments are just stupid. He’s one of the Greatest players in History. The Average American Fan that never played doesn’t understand how the game is meant to be played. Pirlo is a Legend and played very well for NYCFC this year.

    • Pirlo ( heart attack waiting to happen )

He WAS one the greatest. And you’re obviously blind. He didn’t play ‘very well’ this year. He had nice moments but was mediocre overall not to mention he looked horribly out of shape. Multiple passes to nowhere, out of bounds and the other team is what I saw. Even the most die hard boy city fan has to admit his play was average at best. Just accept it. And he won’t get better.
