NYCFC away kit, Orlando City shirt leaked by EA Sports, FIFA 15

You won’t need to wait until Major League Soccer’s official jersey release celebration to get a glimpse of the NYCFC away kit.

A rare oversight in the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team web app reveals the above image to be New York City’s second jersey.

The glitch, first spotted by MLS freelance writer and NYCFC supporter Ben Jata, reveals a black shirt with thin vertical off-white stripes running down the front. A small, triangular orange collar accent adorns the top of the shirt with what appears to be a black-sided MLS logo on the sleeve. Blue trimming on both the sleeves and the bottom of the shirt complete the new look which, unlike their home jersey, is a clear departure from the Manchester City-influenced home shirts.

If you are looking for the jersey on your console, don’t bother. The image is still embargoed by EA. However, it is visible in both the FIFA 15 online web app and the phone app as well. A kit search on your consoles does reveal the item up for bid, and also reflects the online bidding numbers for the shirt. However, seekers are offered this image instead of the original:

EA also unwittingly revealed Orlando City’s second shirt, whose design is a near replica of the first:

Orlando City SC New York City FC

So the away kit is also a near carbon copy of Man City’s away kit too. I am shocked, said no one.

    • Smith

Somewhere out there we can find Nick Chavez sobbing uncontrollably, secure in the knowledge that, literally, EVERYTHING that, literally, EVERYONE, warned him about is true.

        This ^

  • Anthony

Um, i think “clear departure” is a bit inaccurate. Not “identical” it certainly looks a lot like their current away kits and certainly does not look “New York” at all…in fact there really is no way you can be a MCFC farm team and look New York, even if the kit was Lady Liberty’s robes.

    • Fred

You know, that WOULD’VE been a great idea! There’s no other team in the league with verdigris green. Navy blue with verdigris accents, and a verdigris kit with white and orange accents would’ve been neat.

I love how Ben Jata works for MLS but a public NYCFC supporter, proof enough their SG is run from league HQ. MLS used to (prob still does) have a policy for employees that they can not publicly root for or support MLS teams. Know several peeps that worked there that can confirm this…yet here is a guy publicly a NYCFC “supporter” on their payroll…hmmmm

  • As always Anthony, right on the money.

  • Kevin

its not a FO run club you morons. Go back to talking about the cosmos.

    • Really Kevin? Just out of curiosity, who negotiated the “exclusive” deal with Upper 90 to carry third rail merchandise? And who is handling the manufacturing and delivery to Upper 90? Who from the third rail designed the wool third rail hat?

      • ^this.

        • Kevin

The president, Chance Michaels did. Would it kill you to actually get some correct information before you just come on here and spew bullshit? Why are you in the NYCFC section anyway? Worry about your own team.

  • LOL

Shouldn’t you cosmos clowns be trying to figure out how your t-shirt selling operation can buy the league next season? Not as easy when you actually have to play a full season and other teams in the league adjust to your spending.

    • Yup, “LOL” this year was a tough year for us, we finished third, and probably deservedly lost in the semi-final match to the ultimate champions. We’ve already signed a pretty good new player for next year, Regardless, if we finish in last place, I’ll be unhappy, but I won’t feel stupid because I cheer for a can of soda or a baby brother of the second best team from England’s third city.

      • Smith

You know, let’s be honest; all the NY area teams suck conceptually. The Red Bulls are corporate branding, the Cosmos aren’t THE Cosmos & NYCFC is just Man City Lite. What makes me laugh is how NYCFC fans thought they WEREN’T going to be MCFC Lite. I mean…root for whomever you like, but know what you are. AND those “kits” are awful and unimaginative.

        • Really, the Cosmos aren’t “THE Cosmos”? How is that? Do we not compare favorably to the 1971 roster of the Cosmos? Is Liverpool not THE Liverpool because they’re not as good as they were in the 70s and 80s?

The Cosmos are an important part of New York soccer history, from 1971-1985. The Cosmos are building a new team but very much within the great traditions of the team that started not just with the arrival of Pele but from the very beginning.

Sorry, Smith, there is not the remotest equivalency between the Cosmos and the other two pro teams in the metro area. One is an authentically new york soccer team, the others are cross marketing projects for some bigger coroporate brother. Pitiful.

          • Smith

I grew up on the Cosmos of old and go see the current crop play, but, you know, man, it’s quite a drop from the glory of 77-82 and there was a long hiatus. And the embarassing PK “Blackout jersey”era. That said, I go see them. I go see Red Bulls too. Still, I recognize the shortcomings of both. As for NYCFC, they’re City Lite.

            • Smith enough already

The Cosmos existed before 77-82, the years you apparently followed. Good times bad times, still the same Club to me.

              • Smith

Well, same name anyway. I root for ’em and I like a lot of what NASL is doing, but the lack of continuity makes it feel like u and I started a baseball team in Brooklyn and called it the Dodgers. It’s really not THE Dodgers. However, I appreciate your passion. See u at the games.

          • MTF

I just don’t get what makes for an ‘authentic’ soccer team. The original Cosmos team was founded in 1970 by Warner Communications execs the Ertegun brothers and company president Steve Ross. They were financially backed by Warner. Now granted, they weren’t called the ‘New York Warner LPs’ but what exactly is authentic about their founding? They weren’t a company team in the mold of the old Bethlehem Steel FC. So really what is more authentic about them than the MetroStars / Red Bulls and their corporate owners, or NYCFC being owned by Man City / Yankees? If by authentic NY soccer team you mean that their name has been around for 45 years then OK. It’s just a little puzzling and tiresome. If by authentic you mean not subject to the rules of MLS and single entity, then OK too.

            • MTF

Sorry, saw someone posted here. Didn’t realize the thread was from last year. Was wondering why NYC’s road jersey looked unchanged to me!
