Watch: Red Bulls’ Oyongo scores critical goal for Cameroon in AFCON

New York Red Bulls defender Ambroise Oyongo saved Cameroon from an early blush, scoring the tying goal late in his team’s African Cup of Nations’ match against Mali and earning his nation a draw.

Playing as a right back under Volker Finke’s side, Oyongo put on a stunning display, slashing into the box and receiving a ball over the top of the Mali defenders.  The Red Bulls’ star youngster took two brilliant touches before burying the opportunity in the 84th minute, salvaging a point for his country.

His goal for the Indomitable Lions comes nearly at the same time as his name circulates about the MLS rumor mill.  As reported first by EOS, Oyongo looks set to join the Montreal Impact in exchange for midfielder Felipe.

Next up for Cameroon is Guinea on January 24th, followed by the final Group match of the first round against perennial powerhouse, Ivory Coast.
