While most people following the Red Bulls are still firmly focused on the Mike Petke saga, the team continues about the business of preparation for the upcoming season.

In an exclusive conversation with EOS, Red Bulls General Manager Marc de Grandpre revealed a major component to that agenda; participation in the yet-to-be announced IMG tournament.

“[The Red Bulls] are headed to Orlando on the 26th, then they come back here for a week or two, then they head down to Sarasota for the IMG tournament,” de Grandpre tells EOS. “There will be a couple of matches down there.”

A league source tells us the tournament is set to take place over the course of ten days in February (18th-28th). According to our source, Toronto FC, the Philadelphia Union and the Columbus Crew will take part in the event along with HB Koege of Denmark and the Costa Rican U-21 team.

The Red Bulls will participate in four total matches.

The IMG Tournament caps off what will be a busy six weeks for the club.  The team prepares this week for the MLS SuperDraft. Players report next week at the Red Bull training facility in preparation for a training camp in Orlando, scheduled to run from January 26th to February 6th. The Red Bulls return home for ten days, departing to Florida on the 16th before participating in the IMG tournament. That will lead the club to their March 8th MLS season opener at Sporting KC.

    Get out!

  • Who cares?

Funny thing is before the Petke firing I actually would have considered travelling to go see this. I could care less now. Hope they enjoy playing to an empty arena this year. #redbullout
