Those wondering when the New York Red Bulls would announce their mid-summer friendly may have just been given a helpful hint.

A retracted tweet by the San Jose Earthquakes reveals the Red Bulls amongst ten other teams, both domestic and international, expected to take part in this year’s International Champion’s Cup tournament.

EOS can independently confirm the team’s participation.

The Red Bulls join MLS sides Earthquakes and LA Galaxy amongst a field that includes world powers Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, FC Porto, Fiorentina, PSG and Club America. This will mark the third installment of the tournament which began in 2013.  Chelsea, Manchester United and the LA Galaxy are the only clubs to have participated in the ICC twice.  Past participants included Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and Roma.

The tournament has traditionally taken place in the summer. The LA Galaxy advanced in the competition in 2012, playing three matches under the ICC umbrella, finishing fourth behind champions Real Madrid, Chelsea and AC Milan.

The full slate of matches and venues will be released as early as Wednesday morning.

UPDATE:

EOS has learned “multiple” ICC matches will be taking place at Red Bull Arena. Sources originally said the Red Bulls were aiming for a home match against Manchester United, but that option has been tabled. Venues and opponents will be announced at a later date. The full list of ICC participants will be released today.

The tournament will run from July 11 to August 5

Any word on whether these games will be included for season ticket holders?

    • Billy

I sure as hell hope so.

  • Larry’s A Simpleton

That’s an impressive line up of clubs participating. Hope it’s Barca coming to Red Bull Arena.

Can’t wait for Leo to chime in with all sorts of proof Don Garber put the squeeze on the organizers to keep the cosblos out of the tournament.

So this is what will keep red bull alive and bring fans back.
What an awkward move by MLS, SUM and red bull. Why not, Orlando city or Philly.
We all know galaxy are part of everything, but San Jose and red bull?????

Why would Philadelphia be a better choice?

      • Stone cold Steve Austin

Philadelphia needs some light and union could have used eagles stadium just like San Jose might use niners stadium.
Look at union, they have no fancy dps except one and their fans deserve better.
If Denver got the all star game since they need some light, then union could have used this tournament.
It’s also very interesting why Orlando didn’t get chosen when they have the citrus bowl and fans. Maybe it’s red bull last kiss before they are out.
By the way, can cosmos be part of this next year and use giants stadium or mets.
