Perry Van Der Beck Named USL VP of Competition and Operations

USL has announced that former player, coach and and administrator Perry Van Der Beck will now serve as Vice President of Competition and Operations.

Van Der Beck will be in charge of league operations, scheduling, refereeing and discipline in the new position. He is replacing the former VP of Competition and Operations David Wagner who held the position since January of 2015 and now has joined the National Basketball Association in an administrative role.

“We are very pleased to welcome Perry to the USL family,” said USL president Jake Edwards. “Perry brings a broad-based soccer background as a player, coach and administrator that will serve him well with our players and teams. He inherits a strong staff that continues to bring the level of competition and operations within the USL to new heights.”

Van Der Beck is a veteran of the original NASL with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and played with the US Men’s National team between 1979 and 1985. He also served as an interim head coach with the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2001 and the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2010.

Most recently Van Der Beck has been working with the Rowdies in a variety of different positions.

“I am excited at the opportunity here at the USL and transitioning to work on the league level,” said Van Der Beck. “I look forward to working with the coaches and administrators at all of our teams to continue to present the USL in a sophisticated and professional manner.”
