Philadelphia trade Josue Martinez, allocation money to Red Bulls for Le Toux

A busy start to the trade window just got a bit busier.

Following up on the Le Toux trade that broke earlier this afternoon, EoS has learned Sebastian Le Toux will be headed to the Philadelphia Union for young Costa Rican forward Josue Martinez and an undisclosed sum of allocation money.

“We are excited to bring Josué to the Red Bulls. Our staff considers him a young player with potential. In addition, the allocation money we received will provide us some financial flexibility,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. “Sébastien indicated to us at the end of the season that he wanted to return to Philadelphia and we respected his request. We want to thank him for his service to the Red Bulls club and wish him the best of luck in the future.”

Martinez, 22, appeared in 18 games last season for the Union, starting in six while notching a single goal one 14 shots all season long. A product of the Saprissa system, Martinez has already appeared 16 times for the national team while scoring two goals in the process. He rarely figured in the Union’s line-up down the stretch of the season but is considered a promising young prospect in his home country.

Sebastian Le Toux never really made an impact with the Red Bulls. After being torn away from Philadelphia and enduring a short, arduous stay in Vancouver, Le Toux remained unsettled with the Red Bulls who expected much more out of the French star – especially when giving up Dane Richards for his services. He will now reunite with the club he never wanted to leave.

*UPDATE: The Philadelphia Union have confirmed the details of the trade
