The U.S. continues to look better under Bruce Arena as they controlled the match against Jamaica in Chattanooga.
Once again the squad looked organized with a clear idea of what everyone’s responsibility was, and unlike Sunday, this one ended in a more positive result for the American fanbase.
While nobody definitively wrote themselves into a starter’s role coming this March when World Cup qualification kicks back up, the U.S. has taken positive steps in the right direction since the end of Klinsmann’s reign.
Now onto the ratings.
Luis Robles – GK: 6.5
Didn’t have a whole lot to do in a half of work, but when called into action, he came up strong deflecting a hard cross and disrupting a Jamaican opportunity on goal.
Jorge Villafana – LB: 7
Solid defensively, made a real impact in the attack showing good chemistry with Lletget. Probably helped his case the most for future consideration.
Walker Zimmerman – CB: 7
Very solid in the center back role. Strong, tough play kept the Jamaican attackers uncomfortable all night.
Steve Birnbaum – CB: 6
Solid when called into action, nothing glaring to hurt his mark.
Graham Zusi – RB: 4
After having a solid afternoon against Serbia, was painfully exposed on a number of Jamaican attacks being caught out of position and outpaced.
Dax McCarty – CDM: 6.5
Didn’t have too much to do in face of a rather anemic Jamaican attack. Had a brutal turnover early in the second half, but finished strong, picking out Zusi on a dangerous long ball, and starting the sequence that lead to Jordan Morris’ goal.
Sebastian Lletget – LM/CM: 6
Had a nice partnership with Villafana and nearly had a golazo off a set piece. Faded when moved centrally.
Benny Feilhaber – CM: 6.5
Wasn’t making much of an impact throughout the match, made a misguided attempt at a quick restart that resulted in a Jamaican counter. But he sure finished in a flurry partnering with Jordan Morris nicely in limited space on the U.S.’ goal.
Chris Pontius – RM: 4
By and large absent all night. Very little chemistry with Zusi along the right side.
Jordan Morris – F: 7
Should have finished a flick on by Agudelo in the second half, but made up for it with a nice goal in the second half.
Juan Agudelo – F: 5
Had a couple of moments where he flashed that ability that got so many fans excited a few years back. But he otherwise didn’t make much of an impact.
David Bingham – GK: 6
Didn’t have a whole lot to do in his 45 minutes of work.
Michael Bradley – CM: 6
Did what he had to do to help close out the match.
Darlington Nagbe – LM: 5
Not as much of an impact I n this one like he did against Serbia.
Brad Evans – RB: 5
Got beat down the right side late on a Jamaican counter, otherwise fine.
Alejandro Bedoya – RM: INC
Too short a stint to make much of an impact.
Demarcus Beasley – LB: INC
Late cameo with little to do.
